Salt Lake (Bidhannagar) — Kolkata's planned neighbour
Short answer. Salt Lake and Bidhannagar are the same place: a planned city in North 24 Parganas district that forms part of the Kolkata urban area and is Eastern India's main information-technology hub. It is governed by the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (6 boroughs, 41 wards), not by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, so it is in Kolkata's urban area but not inside its municipal limits.
